Tourmaline is the name given to a large group of boron silicate minerals all sharing a common crystal structure and similar physical properties. These combinations very tremendously in chemical makeup. This wide range of chemical combinations causes tourmaline to occur in more color combinations than any other gemstone group. With tourmaline falling in at a 7-7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, anyone born in October can pick a tourmaline to fit their own personal color palette.
