Aquamarine is the blue to green-blue variety of the mineral beryl (Be3Al2SiO6). With a small trace of iron considered an impurity added to its crystalline structure, allows this gem to exhibit its beautiful blue color reminiscent of the sea. At 7.5 – 8.0 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, aquamarine is a great gem for everyday wear jewelry and just so happens to be the official birthstone for March. Often a pure blue color, this gem may also have natural green tinges that we just love.
