Spinel has been found throughout the worlds’ gemstone deposits for hundreds of years. At a 7.5 – 8.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness, spinel is a beautiful and durable gemstone for use in jewelry. Spinel is the magnesium and aluminum rich (MgAl2O4) variety of spinel minerals. With trace elements of chromium producing a range of vibrant reds to glowing pinks, varying amounts of iron can produce purples, greys, and even oranges.
